Intra-school sport

Are schools permitted to conduct intra-school sport activities?

In line with the Queensland Government’s easing of restrictions, schools are now able to conduct intra-school sport activities.

What additional requirements are there for the use of communal jerseys and bibs at sport events?

Where possible, each student should bring their own jersey for use at events.

Where communal jerseys/bibs are used, they must be stored in a labelled “clean” bag prior to use and returned to a “used” bag after use. All used jerseys/bibs must be laundered before they can be used by another student.

Are canteens permitted to operate at school sport events?

Schools operating a canteen at a school sport event should adhere to the checklist requirements outlined in the Queensland Government COVID Safe Checklist: dining and drinking (PDF, 355KB).

All sport events must be conducted in accordance with the Roadmap (PDF, 175KB), AIS Framework and Industry Framework for COVID Safe Events (PDF, 1.5MB).

Will the number of volunteers decrease the number of parents and spectators allowed?

The number of people at a venue is determined by the Roadmap (PDF, 175KB) or an external venue’s COVID Safe Industry Plan. All essential staff required to attend the event, including volunteers, need to be included in the overall gathering number.

What contact and non-contact activities are permitted for each sport?

For inter-school sport where there are fewer than 500 people (indoors) or 1,000 people (outdoors), the event convenor is to complete the Queensland Government COVID Safe Event Checklist (PDF, 324KB) for each sporting event.

For events hosting between 500 (indoors)/1,000 (outdoors) to 10,000 people, the event convenor is to complete the COVID Safe Plan Checklist for their relevant sport under an approved COVID Safe Industry Plan, e.g. appendix 4 of field sports (PDF, 986KB), for each sporting event.

A risk assessment taking into account approved COVID-19 control measures must be undertaken prior to approval.

Sporting activities may also include modifications based on the sport-specific guidelines from AIS.

For inter-school sport occurring at a school, the number of spectators and non-essential people must be minimised. If spectators plan to attend, they will need to seek prior approval from the host school and follow all school operational requirements.

Why have some inter-school sport events been rescheduled and others have been cancelled?
