In line with the Queensland Government's easing of restrictions, schools are able to conduct inter-school sport competitions for both indoor and outdoor sports, including contact sports.
Planning for these activities should include consideration of the
Roadmap (PDF, 175KB), AIS Framework and
Industry Framework for COVID Safe Events (PDF, 1.5MB).
Gatherings for sport activities and competitions at external venues are permitted to be held at venues that have approved COVID Safe Industry Plans.
As outlined in the Roadmap:
- resumption of activity including competition and physical contact is permitted on the field of play
- indoor sports facilities can open with one person per 4 square metres (off the field of play)
- outdoor sports facilities can open with physical distancing (off the field of play).
If a sporting activity or competition is to be held at a venue not covered by an approved COVID Safe Industry Plan, principals must ensure all measures have been taken to meet departmental and Chief Health Officer requirements. A risk assessment taking into account approved COVID-19 control measures must be undertaken prior to approval.
Sporting activities may also include modifications based on the sport-specific guidelines from AIS.
For inter-school sport occurring at a school, the number of spectators and non-essential people must be minimised. If spectators plan to attend, they will need to seek prior approval from the host school and follow all school operational requirements.
